The ultimate test of survival begins, as eleven ordinary people are dropped, totally alone, along the banks of the huge Mackenzie River, in Canada’s wild and remote Northwest Territories. They are competing to outlast one another and claim the 100,000 prize. The competitors are left to fend for themselves and film their own adventure, equipped only with a handful of basic tools. NHS Worker, Eva, comes face to face with the predator she fears most and builder, Louie, is desperate to go hunting with his bow and arrow–but soon faces a harsh reality check. Alan tries foraging and discovers a taste for pine sap. Meanwhile, Mike suffers an injury that could jeopardize his place in the competition and clothing designer Naomi endures the most terrifying night of her life.

The reality of living alone in one of the most inhospitable places on Earth is kicking in, and the scale of the challenge threatens to overwhelm 19 year-old student, Kian. While some prioritize building shelters for long term survival, others are focused on sourcing food. Builder Louie is desperate to make his first kill, but his hunting doesn’t go to plan. Entrepreneur Laura has a petrifying night-time encounter and finds the isolation increasingly hard to bear. Meanwhile, Alan heads deep into the forest to try and snare game, but his poor sense of direction lands him in grave danger. The challenge proves too much for two more people, who tap out of the competition.

Finding food becomes crucial as extreme hunger kicks in. Even for those with previous experience of fishing, the mighty Mackenzie River doesn’t give up its rewards easily, leaving Tom and Louie increasingly desperate. For first-time fishers, such as PR Executive Elise, who has suffered severe anxiety and panic attacks in the past, the constant trial and error proves a mental and physical battle. Meanwhile, vegetarian Eva, faces a hard choice when her net catches something unexpected, and for Pip, the threat of predators becomes very real.

The battle with isolation takes a mental toll on Louie. Alan on the other hand, is loving his “autistic paradise,” but soon faces an unexpected problem. Former Army Commando Pip discovers the wilderness is giving her a new perspective on life. Meanwhile, ultra-marathon runner Javed hasn’t caught any food since the competition began but is hoping a strong mindset can carry him through. A wild storm that upends trees puts everyone in danger, but for Naomi the terror doesn’t stop there as she is targeted by a predator after dark. And the scale of the challenge proves too much for one more person.

The biting Canadian winter closes in, bringing new challenges as food becomes increasingly scarce. Tom builds a makeshift mouse trap and finds a bonus source of calories–but suffers an injury that could threaten his chances in the competition. Meanwhile, Alan’s attempts to find a meal become increasingly desperate and Elise’s fishing efforts are sabotaged by a beaver. The mental challenge of surviving alone takes its toll, as Eva relives a heart-breaking time from her past and Louie’s loneliness reaches crisis point. As conditions get tougher, more people tap out of the competition. The finalists receive a surprising morale boost, but who will have what it takes to survive the longest and claim the 100,000 prize?
